When selecting a Child Care
Provider, a family is choosing someone who will:
- Nurture, motivate and challenge their
children
- Act accordingly in case of emergency
- Be an example to the children
- Care for the children when they are sick
- Instill the values established by the
family, and
- Foster learning through educational
and hands on experiences.
A Child Care Provider is responsible for
a child’s physical, developmental, emotional, and behavioral
needs. On a daily basis, the provider provides basic care
such as feeding, bathing, dressing and creating a healthy
and safe environment for the children. The provider performs
all duties of child care including transporting the children
to activities, planning and organizing special activities
and play dates, tutoring, and providing other structured,
age appropriate activities.
Many providers take children to their
doctor’s appointments, pick up groceries, shop for children’s
necessaries and supplies, and go to the dry cleaner. Providers
are encouraged to maintain a daily log of activities to
provide continuity with the parents. As every family is
unique, each family is encouraged to develop their expectations
with the provider to create a strong, consistent working
relationship.
